The State of New Mexico requires all drivers driving in the streets, roads and highways in New Mexico to have proof of financial responsibility. The proof of financial responsibility may be the surety bond, cash deposit or liability insurance. Any of the three can be used as proof of financial responsibility for motorists. For surety bond or cash deposit, the required amount should not be less than $60,000. If you want cash deposit, you can deposit it at the state treasurers office. Or if you want you can get a surety bond for the same amount. You will then be issued a certificate for your bond which you can now use as your proof of financial responsibility.
Although you may choose to have a cash deposit or surety bond, the minimum required amount of $60,000 is not enough to cover all the expenses you may incur in the event of serious accident. You may therefore want to increase the amount of your deposit or bond or you may instead get the liability insurance. May opts to get the liability insurance instead since it provides better protection. The minimum required liability insurance is $20,000 per person for bodily injury to or death of one person per accident, $50,000 per accident for bodily injury to or death of two or more people per accident and $10,000 for property damage per accident.
Generally homeowners insurance in the State of Mexico provides coverage for the home and the other structures in the property. It also covers the personal belongings inside the home and provides personal liability protection for lawsuits and claims should someone get hurt inside your home or property. Lastly it also provides cost of living should your need to move out of your home temporarily because it was damaged by any of the perils stated in your policy.
There are different types of home insurance in the State but the most common ones are the Broad HO-2 and the Special HO-3. The HO-2 is the basic home insurance and is cheaper then the HO-3. It provides protection against the named perils, such as fire, smoke, lighting and others. The Special HO-3 on the other hand provides better coverage since it covers your home against all perils except the standard exception, which are flood and lighting. This is also the more common of the two among homeowners.
Now, should you wish to have protection from earthquake and flood, you will have to get separate policy for them. For the earthquake you can ask your local insurance company if they offer coverage for flood. Most companies carry this type of coverage so there should be no reason why you will not be able to get one. As for the flood insurance, you will have to get one from the National Flood Insurance Plan.
Health insurance in New Mexico is basically divided into two types: group health insurance and individual health insurance. Group health insurance is the health insurance offered by employers to their employees. They also pay part of its premium while the balance is deducted from the salary of the employee. It also has more benefits compared to the individual health insurance. Individual health insurance is the health insurance offered by health insurance companies to individuals who wishes to have health coverage as supplement to their group insurance or to individuals who do not belong to any group health insurance.
Now, if you are denied for health insurance because of health reasons, you can still get coverage from the New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool (NMMIP). All you have to do is to pay the premium and reside in the state after you have met the requirements. On the other hand, if you cannot afford health insurance from private insurance companies and do not belong to any group health insurance, you can get coverage from the state sponsored programs, such as the New Mexico Medicaid, New Mexico Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund.
In terms of life insurance, the most common types of insurance offered in the state are term life insurance, which offers protection for a specific period of time, and the permanent life insurance which provides lifetime coverage.
